Why is Dora the Explorer so popular?
Friday, December 25th, 2009If you ask any child either a boy or a girl who Dora the Explorer is, they can tell you in a heartbeat. Most adults who have children have heard if not watched several episodes of Dora the Explorer and could tell you the names of the characters and sing the songs. But why is watching Dora the Explorer so much fun?
You tune into any episode and you are bombarded with a multitude of colors. The bright colors draw you to the screen and it keeps the attention of both young and old.
Dora is a young girl who along with her best friend Boots goes on many adventures. Children always long to go on adventures themselves, whether it be outside of the house or to a different neighborhood altogether. If you just watch a kid play, their imaginations takes them where ever they want to go and do whatever they want to do. Dora brings this sense of adventure to the television screen and makes it real for the kids.
Dora is always helping one of her friends. Young children love to help. Helping out either around the house or helping a friend makes a kid feel important. Children always get excited when Dora helps one of her friend.
Another thing that makes Dora the Explorer so popular is that there is an interaction with Dora through songs and actions. You have to help her make the right decisions throughout the cartoon; make the right decision and she does what you told her. During these parts of the show children get so engaged that they will talk and scream at the television while jumping up and down.
Swiper is the villain of the show. He is always taking things that do not belong to him. When swiper appears it is very exciting and many children jump up and down and yell at the top of their lungs “Swiper, no swiping” three times. By doing this they are able to stop that terrible Swiper from stealing items that do not belong to him, this is an important part of the show. After doing this you have just saved the day and Dora and Boots can go ahead with their adventure. This climatic point happens in every episode and kids are always looking for that moment.
The music that Dora, Boots and her friends sing is always uplifting and interactive. You have to go along with her and help sing. At the end of the adventure you get to sing the same song that is in all the episodes called “We did it”. Children get excited because they know the words and can twist and dance with Dora and her friends.
Dora the Explorer is a fun experience because you the viewer are part of the adventure. Going on a magical adventure is always so much fun.
